Police-Citizens Youth Clubs

Sports, dance, music, discos, martial arts... and that's just the beginning! Across Queensland, Police-Citizens Youth Clubs are offering safe opportunities for young people to socialise, learn and express themselves through a range of programs.

With 52 branches, serving 82,000 members, PCYC helps 50,000 young people in Queensland each year through their programs, which also include a number of youth development and crime prevention initiatives.

“PCYCs are a great place to come and socialise, play sports, or learn something new,” said Mark Walker, PCYC Corporate Services Manager.  “We run affordable activities for all ages, ranging from fitness, martial arts and sports to dance classes, music, and bike safety education.  We also organise various seasonal events, such as dance parties, festivals and sporting competitions,” he said.

They have also run a number of great fundraising initiatives such as "Time 4 Kids" which saw $250,000 being raised to support the clubs. Over 400 High-profile business leaders and celebrities in 35 communities "did time" by being detained in a make-shift gaol and then had to raise enough bail to be released.

How has Connecting Up helped Police-Citizens Youth Clubs?

As a statewide operation with multiple offices in different locations, PCYC needed to find a way to stretch their technology budget across all of their offices. Through DonorTec, Connecting Up's technology donations and discounts program, PCYC could afford to roll out a standard operating system and office suite environment to all of their offices.

Mark Walker, PCYC Corporate Services Manager said of the donation, “We have just received an organisation-wide donation,” explained Mark.  “We have previously only accessed small items in the past at a few locations.” He also went on to commend the DonorTec service saying, “I would really recommend DonorTec to other not-for-profits because it’s a great program that is probably too good for people to believe.  We are very lucky that a large corporate such as Microsoft provides this support to organisations like ours,” explained Mark.  “We tend to cut corners and take the least expensive options in our IT provisioning and this program has allowed us to provide high quality software solutions.”"
