Creative capitalism that emphasises social benefit
In the Sydney Morning Herald 1 July there is a profile on Cheryl Kernot. The profile looks at how "Keeping the bastards honest" still drives this former politician who now teaches social entrepreneurship.
Cheryl Kernot is the Associate Professor and Director of Teaching and Learning at the Centre for Social Impact at the University of NSW. In between leaving a distinguished political career and returning to Australia in September 2008 she worked for five years in the UK as Director at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurs at the Said Business School at Oxford University and prior to that as Director of Learning at the School for Social Entrepreneurs in London.
In the interview in the Sydney Morning Herald Kernot talks about how, "The world is talking about social value-creation, not just financial value creation," she believes that "...the global financial crisis has highlighted the need for a more creative capitalism that emphasises social benefit.
At the Connecting Up 09 conference, Cheryl Kernot as the opening speaker, provided delegates with a snapshot of the ever changing world. Her presentation focused on:
- new sectoral relationships
- new organisational forms
- new forms of finance
- new measurement tools to translate social value.
You can access the mp3 audio file from Cheryl Kernot's presentation.
