Social media - D&M or shallow and trite?

I attended yesterday's Blue Sky session with Chris Adams and a bunch of interesting people. We had a great conversation that prompted thinking about how we present ourselves through social media, how we talk to each other, how much we say or don't say and how far we go in talking about what's important to us with other people. There were stories from all perspectives. It reinforced to me that being authentic, honest, straightforward, respectful to others is important in all human interactions regardless of whether they are carried out face-to-face or online.
