When's the best time to send your next not-for-profit email campaign?

Need to get your message out? Email is still a powerful communications tool and this infographic from GetResponse shows the best time of day to send out your messages out.

Email response times

Email - it's like the forgotten child (or grandparent?) of online communications, but the reality is - it stills packs a punch. With over 3 billion email addresses out there, it's clear that email isn't going away in a hurry. So, how do we know people are going to open and click on that campaign you've been working hard at?

It's all about timing

Email campaigns can feel like a work of art. You've spent that time building those lists, making sure your content is good and your design works in all the different e-mail programs - but when is the best time to send your email? If people aren't opening your email, they won't be clicking through to your website or reading your crafted copy. This infographic from GetResponse shows the results of their research into when people open and click on links in emails.

Key observations

  • The first hour of delivery is key.
Most people will open emails within the first hour of receiving them.
  • Emails are opened most in the morning and afternoon.
What's interesting is that the afternoon messages are sent in the morning, so the messages sent in the afternoon are more likely to be seen as people's inboxes are a clearer. With that in mind, make sure that your emails arrive in your audience's inbox within an hour of opening times you're targeting.
  • Segmenting is important.
If your audience is spread around the country (or the globe!) sending all of your messages at the same time means your emails will land at different times. Where you can, it's best to segment your mailing list by location so you can make sure they arrive at the best time.
