This is the third annual Australian Community ICT (Information, Communications and Technology) Awards competition, in association with the Connecting Up 09 conference (see www.connectingup.org/conference). The Awards are designed to promote Australia’s most innovative use of ICT by nonprofit organisations, government agencies and companies working with nonprofit organisations. It is an opportunity for all Australian organisations involved in the nonprofit sector to present their innovation and technology to a panel of judges drawn from leading nonprofit organisations, government departments and major ICT companies. The competition winners will have the opportunity to receive their prize at a special Awards Dinner on 11th May 2009, to coincide with the Connecting Up 2009 conference on 11th to 13th May 2009 in Sydney.

Competition Categories
Applicants should consider carefully which category best suits their program/project/innovation before submitting an application. Organisations can submit more than one application provided that it can be clearly demonstrated that it is for a different program/project/innovation. Judges reserve the right to reassign an application to a different category than that for which it was submitted.
Applications are to be submitted in one of the following categories:
1. Best use of software in nonprofit settings
This Award recognises a nonprofit organisation that has led the way in the innovative use of software products or services that enhance nonprofit operations through better internal processes. This includes (but is not limited to) financial applications, human resource applications, case management applications etc.
2. Best use of telecommunications in nonprofit settings
This Award recognises a nonprofit ICT organisation who has led the way in the Innovative use of telecommunications products or services that enhance nonprofit operations and/or service deliver
3. Best web strategy
This Award recognises the nonprofit organisation that has led the way in the innovative use of web strategies (including Web 2.0/social web strategies), applying best practice in accessibility, user friendliness, creative use of media etc, in a nonprofit context.
4. Community ICT Innovator of the Year Award
This Award recognises the nonprofit organisation that the judges consider has made the most significant contribution in terms of promoting ICT as an essential element in nonprofit service delivery and striving towards world’s best practice in nonprofit ICT.
5. Using ICT to connect to the Community - Business of the Year Award
This Award recognises the business which the judges consider has made the most significant contribution in using ICT as an essential element in working effectively with their nonprofit and community stakeholders.
6. Using ICT to connect to the Community - Government Agency of the Year Award
This Award recognises the government agency at any level which the judges consider has made the most significant contribution to using ICT as an essential element in communicating effectively with their community.
Note: Categories 1 to 4 can only be won by nonprofit organisations but they may be a joint entry by a nonprofit and a business and/or a government agency who have worked together to develop a solution.
Applications

Applicants will submit a written application (three page maximum), which addresses the prescribed criteria. The judging panel will select a shortlist of applications in each category and then select a winner. In selecting winning applications the judges’ decision is final. Where the judges determine that a sufficient degree of excellence has not been demonstrated in a particular category then a prize will not be awarded for that category. Short-listed applicants will be advised in time to allow them time to make arrangements to attend the Awards Dinner or to make alternative arrangements for someone to accept the prize on their behalf. Financial assistance to attend the Awards Dinner cannot be provided.
Prizes
All prize winners will be provided with a framed certificate and a prize winners’ logo to display on their website and/or letterhead. In some cases, prizes will include gifts from conference sponsors.
In applying for an Award, applicants are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions as set out on the www.connectingup.org website and the conditions as set out below. To be eligible applicants must agree to these Terms and Conditions and:
- be an Australian-based nonprofit organisation, government agency or company
- be responsible for technology solutions for nonprofits that are : substantially developed and/or modified in Australia, are clearly innovative and have strong potential for further use in the nonprofit sector.
- The judging panel’s decision will be final. Judges reserve the right to contact applicants to assist in their judging.
- Entries must be submitted by email to cu09@connectingup.org by no later than the deadline of 5.00pm AEST, Friday 10th April 2009. Entries lodged after closing time will not be accepted.
- Applicants will be notified when applications are accepted for judging.
- Applications must be submitted in one of the nominated categories.
- Applications must not exceed three A4 pages in length. Applications over three pages will not be accepted for judging by the judging panel.The three pages do not include contact details but does include question headers.
- Applications must be received electronically.
- Nonprofit organisations are entitled to submit an application in more than one category although each application must be for a different technology or innovation.
- In completing and submitting an application for the 2009 Australian Community ICT Awards you agree that your organisation or company’s name and contact details will be provided to competition sponsors upon request.
Winning applicants will be notified prior to the Community ICT Awards Dinner on 11th May 2009.
No feedback on applications will be provided by the organisers or the judges.

Some notes for your planning:
- Prepare you application in Word or similar format in 12 point font. Keep a copy for your records.
- Check that all contact details and questions have been answered before submitting your entry.
