Women making it in IT
Jody will outline the work of the Anita Borg Foundation and their efforts to expand the career prospects of women with an interest in technology and to expand their networks. Presenter: Jody Mahoney is Vice President, Business Development at Anita Borg Institute (ABI), making her responsible for developing current and new Institute sponsors and partners willing to grow with ABI as their programs expand in support of their mission. Prior to joining the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, Jody was senior director international development with TechSoup Global, a social enterprise based in San Francisco where she was instrumental in developing the corporate and nonprofit partnerships needed for international expansion, including Connecting Up Australia’s Donortec program. Prior to TechSoup Global, Jody held many and varied business development, partnership recruitment and technology sales positions. She holds a BFA from Antioch College and an MFA from Warren Wilson College.Jody’s passions include international development, tackling disadvantage, the access of women to technology, equity and microfinance, writing, travel, gardens, advocating on behalf of breast cancer research, teenagers of all shapes and sizes, her family and friends, her Welsh Cardigan Corgi, and lots of laughing.

As a digital native and aspiring activist, Edward tells the story of his emerging passion for the internet and digital technology. Find out about various initiatives and movements that are going on all around the world and come away with a stronger understanding of the trends in the internet world. Presenter: Edward Harran is a freelance digital and social media strategist based out of Brisbane. He has engaged in numerous digital ventures - previously as an online marketing analyst at Wotif.com and social media strategist for Mongolian NGO, Edurelief. A budding social entrepreneur, he is passionate about how digital technology can be used as a force for social change. Besides spending far too much time online, Edward loves travelling, good conversation and the company of passionate people.
Making Cents | Sandra Ross
Making Cents is a highly successful program offering resources online for teachers and parents to help Australians understand and manage their money. The presentation will highlight the successes and challenges of this project including: Success of uptake and use of the resources Reaching isolated areas Ease of access to resources Working with partners. Presenter: Sandra Ross, Director, Community Services and Programs, Regional YWCA NSW. Sandra began her career as a teacher, then consultant with the Department of Education and Training in the Computer Education Unit. She moved into the corporate world as Education Marketing Manager for an international computing company eventually setting up her own consultancy Chalk & Chips: computer education solutions. Since then she has remained in the not for profit sector. YWCA NSW supports vulnerable people at those critical transition periods in life when they are more prone to fall through the gaps. Recognising that most young Australians have not been exposed to financial education, the YWCA NSW and Citi Australia joined forces in 2003 with the NSW Department of Education and Training to develop MakingCents- a curriculum based financial education program. This is the program she will feature in her presentation today.

Social Inclusion: an outcome of ICT
This presentation considers the impact ICT can make on the life of seniors, those who are isolated, people with special needs, Indigenous Australians and carers. Presenter: Nan Bosler OAM BEd MLGMgnt. Nan Bosler has been involved in volunteer work for almost 60 years and has worked with, and for, people of all age groups with particular emphasis on the needs of older people and those with a disability. Nan is the foundation president of the Australian Seniors Computer Clubs Association. She was over 50 when she first went to University and has tertiary qualifications in Adult Education, Community Organisation, Local & Applied History and Local Government Management. She represented Australia internationally in 2008 and presented at the Information Society and the Elderly Global Perspectives Conference in South Korea and an international three-day seminar, Women in motion for the right to Education, a seminar organised in Uruguay by The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) and run by its Gender and Education Office (GEO). She retired from paid employment in 1996. She is, or has been, a member of many committees, including ACCAN, Telstra Consumer Consultative Council, the Broadband for Seniors Consortium, and the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing, Seniors Portal Editorial Board and Community Care (Northern Beaches) Board.
Open Source, Open Knowledge and Open Access for Non-Profits
A presentation which will cover how these very important elements of openness are important to ensuring access to opportunities and sustainability for non-profits and their clients. Presenter: Pia Waugh is a consultant at Waugh Partners in Sydney, Australia. She had worked as a Research Coordinator for the Australian Service for Knowledge on Open Source Software (ASK-OSS), the Open Source strategist for a large systems integrator and still works to develop the Australian FOSS industry and improve Government policies towards FOSS. She has been working with Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) such as Linux for about 8 years. She has seen FOSS deliver not only economic benefits to countries and business all around the world, but significant social and environmental benefits to communities everywhere.
