Session: SDA Online - Using social media to engage with people with disabilities and disability support workers

The principle behind Self-Directed Approaches places the individual with a disability at the centre of decision-making about their hopes, goals and lifestyle choices.

Maree’s organisation has used social media in the form of a blog to find out peoples’ experiences and stories around setting up their own self-directed approach. The aim is to set up an information page on our website around people with disabilities experiences and stories (good or bad) of setting up their own self directed approaches.

Speaker Bio: Maree Ireland is the Project Coordinator with field – furthering inclusive learning and development. field is an organisation committed to promoting and modeling a culture of learning for people with disability, the disability services workforce and the community to create a more inclusive society. She manages the blog and any other developments around Self-Directed Approaches.
