When we chose the theme for Connecting Up 08 as ‘Online and Off to the Future for Australia’s Nonprofits’ we planned and hoped for great results. The outcomes of the Conference, in Brisbane for the first time, exceeded every expectation we had and then some. From breaking the 5 year record for attendance, to the high quality of the local and international speakers, to the energy brought to the conference by delegates, there was a palpable buzz throughout the 2 days. The 2nd annual Community ICT Awards, presented at the Conference dinner, reached a new level of quality in the submissions and Award winners, as well as terrific commitment from Award sponsors and presenters. There is no doubt in my mind that the sector’s maturity and sophistication in the use of technology, especially in the use of the ‘social web’, is helping bring about real change in the capacity of nonprofit organisations in key areas such as administration, client outreach, communication and fundraising. Some of what we are doing is as good as anything in the world but in other areas we have a way to go yet.
Thank you once again to our delegates, presenters, sponsors, CISA staff and contractors, and to the wonderful people of Queensland, for making this event a great success. We’re already planning for next year but in the meantime check out the www.ConnectingUp.org web site for all conference follow up content from this year and incorporate what works for you in your organisation’s progress. Like the conference delegates, I’m asking you to make a tangible, measurable commitment to change forever at least one thing about the way your organisation currently operates and the way that you operate within it.
Regards
Doug Jacquier

With the buzz of Connecting Up 08 still lingering we have taken your survey responses about what you would like to see in the future and we are pursuing next year’s event – Connecting Up 09. We aim to bring you more world class presenters and exciting case studies, dig deeper into the issues of using the technology to build capacity and the management of all that “new information and communication media”. We will also build in some workshops to allow you to be “hands on” and “have a go” with some new technologies.
One of the take away pointers from this year’s conference was that technology is the tool or medium which provides powerful ways for us to market better, to fundraise better, to manage better, to communicate better, to engage membership better, to research better, to measure better, to deliver services, to save time, to save dollars, to drive income more efficiently………and, and, and!
The challenge is to unlock the doors on how we can do all this, where to start and what are the ground rules for a world of fast and furious communication!
Stay tuned for more to come and please tell us your thoughts and burning issues at: www.connectingup.org or Feedback |
