Jean Roberts: Speaker Spotlight - Governance, technology, and staff - The critical links between them

Jean Roberts is Director of Roberts Management Concepts Pty Ltd of Melbourne. She has worked with a wide range of nonprofits in Australia as consultant, trainer, facilitator, mentor, writer and publisher. She wil be joining over forty other speakers at Connecting Up 2011 where she will be challenging nonprofit boards to look at how they implement technology.

In the short interview below, she sheds some more light on what she will be talking about at Connecting Up 2011

What are you looking forward to most at CU11?
Information about technology – and whether the experiences of nonprofits with technology have been useful

What role does technology play in your everyday work?
Website, PC, e-books, on-line selling, emails and presentation of a variety of information

What are some of your favourite tech resources (e.g. blogs, news sites, forums, discussion groups)?
research, communication and exploring ideas

What is one of the most pressing tech issues facing nonprofits?
Knowing what they need – my experience is that technology must be better than whatever it is replacing

What is one area that you believe technology can help nonprofits work significantly better?
Internal knowledge and experience with technology – not have to rely on external advisors who may not be sufficiently familiar with the organisation’s resource base and strategic priorities

If there is one thing you would like people to take away from your session, what would it be?
Some ‘tools’ to improve the relationship between the Governance, staff competencies, and available resources.
