Windows has always been a staple for many organisations running PC’s. Windows 7 is the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system and is available as a donated product to nonprofit organisations in Australia through our DonorTec program.

Why should my nonprofit upgrade to Windows 7?

Windows 7 offers a significant upgrade over Windows XP and added benefits over Windows Vista. Bringing your organisation’s computers up to scratch means less hassle when it comes to compatibility, sharing and support.

Windows 7 Professional and Enterprise also offer a number of features designed specifically for businesses and organisations in an office environment, including better program compatibility and better security options.

Software Assurance for Windows 7 Professional/Enterprise Upgrade Editions

Need to know that you won’t have to buy new software, or need to work with older versions of Windows? Windows 7 Professional/Enterprise upgrade (not applicable to full, “Get Genuine” products) licenses accessed through DonorTec include 2 years software assurance. This means that if Microsoft releases a newer version of Windows in the next 2 years, you will be able to upgrade for free.

For system administrators working with multiple machines, if you need an older version of Windows, Software Assurance also allows you to downgrade in order to keep your computers on a uniform platform.

Get Genuine for full Windows 7 Professional editions

If your organisation requires a full operating system instead of an upgrade, nonprofit organisations can access “Get Genuine” licenses through DonorTec. “Get Genuine” licenses assure you that what you are using is a genuine Microsoft product and gives you full access to Microsoft’s associated services (e.g. upgrades, free tools and added security).

“Get Genuine” licenses do not include Software Assurance.

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional vs Enterprise

Windows 7 is available from DonorTec in two different versions: Windows 7 Professional (full version and upgrade) and Windows 7 Enterprise (upgrade only).

Both versions offer great features for organisations looking for a solid operating system; however Windows 7 Enterprise also offers a few extra features such as:

  • UNIX application support

How to access donated Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise licenses

Our DonorTec program allows eligible nonprofits to access Microsoft’s donation program in Australia. To order, organisations must register (for free) and then order the licenses via the DonorTec website.
