The theme for the 2011 competition is Forested Wetlands: their importance and wise use.The competition has categories in art and photography for children and adults, with some great prizes to be won, including the $1500 NSW Catchment Management Authorities Open Art 1st Prize.
A few days ago, Radio National’s Life Matters program held a talk-back about Christmas gifts (What's in a gift?). This is something that we think about a lot at this time of year. But, the focus of this program was on unwanted gifts. We get caught up with feelings of obligation to give gifts to family members and friends at Christmas time and often miss the mark. So, we end up giving things that are neither useful nor wanted. What a waste! So, with that in mind, here are some suggestions for gifts that will not encumber recipients with useless clutter, will help people who really need it, and they can link you and your gift recipient with the wider world.
Three workers from the nonprofit sector would be making their way to attend a technology conference in Washington DC, courtesy of scholarships provided by Connecting Up Australia. This is the result of the scholarship programme that we launched over two months ago. Connecting Up has offered scholarships worth up to $5,000 each to Christopher John (Lifeline Tasmania), Sarah Pulis (Media Access Australia) and Erica Thompson (OzChild). The lucky winners were chosen from entries that were submitted from all over Australia.
