This Masterclass focuses on providing the processes, tools and skills to implement or grow effective grant-seeking in your charitable organisation.
We'll be stepping through setting up a grants program, from understanding the grants environment, getting your organisation grant-ready with appropriate documents and IT systems, to project planning and packaging, identifying good funding prospects, engaging with funders, through to understanding the process of crafting your organisation's case for support. Analysis of some well-written and poorly-written applications will help cement best-practice writing!
Participants will learn to:

- Know how to package a project appropriately for grant funding
- Take a planned and pro-active approach to funding
- Differentiate between outputs, outcomes and impact
- Provide funder stewardship
- Pinpoint commonly made mistakes in grant writing

Cathy Kirwan has had an extensive career in the non profit sector spanning 25 years. Initially trained as a youth worker, she spent 8 years working in direct service in the homelessness sector providing case management to young people and families.
Cathy has been privileged to working across multiple fields including Australian Indigenous affairs, women’s health, community radio, community arts, international development, disability, and the philanthropic sector, where she was able to engage with a wide variety of organisations across Australia.
Over the last 10 years Cathy’s work has focused in the areas of fundraising, marketing and communications. She joined the Strategic Grants team in 2016 as Research Manager.
