The Infoxchange team is going Dry this July to help raise funds and awareness for our partners and community at Ovarian Cancer Australia.
That means we’ll be joining hundreds of thousands of Australians to take part in what has become a national movement - a month where we put away the booze and commit ourselves to a greater cause.
For many, Dry July is the perfect opportunity to give our bodies a rest, focus on our health, and even save a bit of money. The best part? All proceeds raised through Dry July will support Australians living with cancer.
Where it all began
In 2008, three friends, Brett, Kenny and Phil, wanted to take a break from alcohol, so they decided to go sober for July, coining it their 'Dry July'. They also wanted to raise money for a cause close to their hearts, so they asked friends and family to sponsor them.
Hoping to raise $3,000 to buy a TV for their local hospital’s waiting room, the campaign was a huge success. The first Dry July raised over $250,000 – paving the way for what would become one of Australia’s largest fundraising events.
Legacy and impact
Since 2008, Brett, Kenny and Phil’s idea has inspired more than 250,000 Australians to give up alcohol for July, raising over $60 million for people affected by cancer and funding projects at more than 80 cancer organisations.
Funds raised through Dry July provide invaluable services to cancer patients, their families and carers – from transport to life-saving appointments, to advice from specialist nurses, to connections to knowledgeable voices, to access to therapy programs or a bed close to treatment.
Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of Dry July participants each year, the Dry July Foundation is able to fund projects and programs that improve the comfort and wellbeing of people affected by cancer. Everything supported is to benefit cancer patients and their families and carers.
Support our Dry July team
The Infoxchange team going Dry this July – huge shout-out to our team champions Hayley, Peter, Sarah and Rahul - will raise funds and awareness for our partners and community at Ovarian Cancer Australia.
This will support people battling a condition with a five-year survival rate of 46% by directly impacting the work OCA does in aiding the psychological, practical and emotional support offered to women and families affected by ovarian cancer.
If you’re not able to take part in Dry July yourself, we’d love it if you could make a donation to support the team by clicking here.
Other ways to support Dry July
It’s not too late to get involved this year. With 100,000s people participating around Australia, you probably have a friend or two that has already registered. If you do, please reach out and show your support by donating - or simply providing some words of encouragement.
Or, if you missed this Dry July, make sure you schedule a reminder for next year’s registration.
And remember that Sober October is fast approaching - another great event that will support those impacted by cancer.
A huge thank you
If you’re supporting our team, or anyone else taking part in Dry July, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you.
We’d also like to offer our congratulations to all those participating in this year’s Dry July month. This is such an important event that makes a huge difference.
You are all legends.
