Optimux-XLE1 provides a simple, flexible and cost-effective solution for transporting multiple E1, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and high-speed data channels over an E3 link to distances of up to 110 km (68 miles). The E3 link is available with single mode fiber, multimode fiber, single mode over single fiber, or coax interface. The Optimux-XLE1 multiplexer is available in both modular and nonmodular versions.

The 4-port (NM-4A/S) and 8-port (NM-8A/S) asynchronous/synchronous (async/sync) network modules provide async connectivity with speeds up to 115.2 kbps, and sync connectivity with speeds up to 128 kbps. These modules use the 60-pin "5-in-1" cables, similar to those used on the Cisco 2500 and Cisco 7000 series routers.

The 6-slot Cisco Catalyst 6506-E Switch provides intermediate port densities, ideal for many wiring closet and core network deployments with exceptional functionality and flexibility. Any two Cisco Catalyst 6500E series Switches with Supervisor Engine 720-3C/720-3CXL/S2T-10G/S2T-10G-XL can be pooled together into a VSS. The chassis offers superior investment protection by supporting all the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Supervisor Engines and associated LAN, WAN, and services modules.
