A full day of Australian Indigenous Language programming on Indigenous Community Television (ICTV) is being sponsored by Connecting Up as part of International Mother Language Day on Wednesday 21 February.
International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is a worldwide annual observance held to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and promote multilingualism.
First announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999, it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in a resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages.
Connecting Up’s sponsorship of ICTV’s IMLD programming is part of a broader partnership with ICTV that includes significant participation by ICTV at Connecting Up’s annual conference in Brisbane from 2-4 May.
The Conference will see ICTV’s Henry Augustine and Neil Turner deliver a keynote speech, as well as the inaugural ICTV “Best Digital Storytelling by an Indigenous Australia” award at this year’s Australian Not-For-Profit Technology Awards.
Indigenous Community Television (ICTV) makes an incredible and important contribution to Indigenous Australian communities by providing opportunities sharing video stories made in remote communities across Australia, including to some of the most remote parts of Australia.
The organisation delivers cultural and community video content to remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities around Australia, and beyond, enabling the sharing of cultural stories, song and dance, language and essential information through two accessible platforms – ICTV Television on Channel 601 VAST across remote Australia, and Channel 41 in Alice Springs, Broome and Roebourne and ICTV PLAY a free video on demand service.
Located in Alice Springs, ICTV is supported by the Australian Government and the Northern Territory Government.
