Family violence is a complex issue, and people will experience violence differently. New research suggests that the majority of people accessing family violence services will experience some form of technology abuse, such as monitoring of their internet usage. But technology can also play an important role in helping those affected to get the help they need. In this webinar, you’ll hear from family and domestic violence experts on their recent work to support people experiencing family violence through technology and how technology is being misused – through tech facilitated abuse and concerns about security and quality control. This on-line session is specially designed to cover the key privacy issues for not for profit organisations operating in Australia and New Zealand. It includes: Who is covered; What is ‘personal information’; What personal information can be collected; Use of personal information including marketing; Consent; Sending personal information out of the country; Data breach notification obligations; and Spam laws It will also cover possible changes to privacy laws that have been proposed, including those that are part of new Consumer Data Right laws and by the Productivity Commission. What is not included in the program? This is not a comprehensive review of all privacy laws but is designed to provide an overview for organisations operating in the not for profit space, highlighting some of the most significant issues. She has been sought out by government departments, international corporations and Australian businesses to advise them on privacy and security matters, conduct privacy compliance reviews (against both Australian privacy laws and the EU General Data Protection Regulation) and undertake privacy and security impact assessments. Dr Siganto graduated as a lawyer from the University of Queensland and after 8 years in private practice became in-house counsel for Tandem Computers followed by roles with Unisys Asia and Dell based in Singapore. She returned to Australia in 2000, founding Bridge Point Communications (specialists in data networking and security) with two other colleagues, where she developed and worked in the security consulting team. Dr Siganto completed her PhD on privacy and information security practice in 2014. In 2017 she established Ringrose Siganto Consulting, a law firm specialising in privacy and security. Dr Siganto is an authorised trainer for (ISC)2 and iapp (the International Association of Privacy Professionals) and has been delivering training in her area for over 15 years. She has been involved with a range of industry groups, including acting as the Chair of the AISA Policy Committee. In addition to her other works, Dr Siganto pursues cyber security and privacy related research projects. She has participated in a study led by Royal Holloway, University of London, which mapped some of the unique traits of information security practitioners in Australia and led AISA’s research into the Australian Cyber Security Skills Shortage.
