Wimmera Southern Mallee Local Learning & Employment Network embraces cloud technology to help develop positive futures for young Western Victorians

Wimmera Southern Mallee Local Learning and Employment Network (WSMLLEN) is a Government funded, not-for-profit organisation working to provide positive futures for the young people of western Victoria. Located in the regional city of Horsham in Victoria, approximately 300 kilometers north-west of Melbourne, WSMLLEN works closely with schools, businesses and other community organisations to improve the education outcomes for all young people, particularly for those at risk of disengaging from education – and is just one of 31 Local Learning and Employment Networks (LLENs) situated in Victoria.

Connecting Up attend the CIC conference | Day two – Lieutenant-General David Morrison AM

The final presentation of the conference was given by the current Australian of the Year, Lieutenant-General David Morrison AM. This fabulous end to the conference saw Morrison share his journey of discovery during his time as the head of the Australian Army between June 2011 and his retirement in May 2015. Morrison spoke of his challenge in confronting the culture of the Army and his mission to institute a process of change. Connecting Up joined the final presentation of the Communities in Control Conference to hear Morrison’s journey of discovery and his plan for change.

Through her creation and portrayal of a slew of memorable and colourful chaacters, Magda Szubanksi has provided a humorous (though sometimes dark) window on some of the colourful characters that make up our communities. But as a great as these characters are, as much as they tell us about ourselves, the woman is far more interesting than her creations.
