This is a guest post from Reboot-IT. At Reboot IT, this is a common question we get asked a lot. Simply put, a used iPad is one which has nothing done to it aside from being turned on to make sure it works. A refurbished iPad costs the same as a used iPad but has been thoroughly checked with specialist software and had any issues that fall below the testing standard rectified. In addition, a refurbished iPad is thoroughly cleaned, had it IMEI checked and has been fully reset.Posted on 07/01/2021 by

Heart for Kids is a Sydney-based not-for-profit that has been helping children living in poverty for 20 years through child sponsorship and education programs. It has changed the lives of hundreds of children in China, Indonesia and India. But working across international borders as well as multiple locations in Sydney meant that collaborating and securely sharing files had become a real challenge for the organisation. Through Connecting Up’s donations and discounts program Heart for Kids was able to get heavily discounted access to Microsoft 365, a cloud-based platform that combines Office apps with additional tools like chat, video meetings and file storage. The team’s communication and efficiency has vastly improved since rolling out the new software, meaning they can now devote more time to their charitable work.Posted on 26/11/2020 by

In response to the challenges facing the not-for-profit sector, Connecting Up has launched a new series of events to help Australian not-for-profits respond to COVID-19. Connecting Up has a long history of engaging with and supporting the Australian not-for-profit sector by connecting it with a large number of experts and mentors at the annual Connecting Up Conference. Because the postponement of this year's conference until November 4-6 has made it impossible for us to provide that direct support in the way we normally would, we have created the Connecting Up COVID-19 Expert Bar. The Expert Bar is Connecting Up’s latest response to the COVID-19 pandemic and will help hundreds of not-for-profit staff to connect with experts and peers working in the same areas to share learnings from the past few months and adapt their strategies and operations to have the best chance for success.Posted on 25/06/2020 by

The approach is considered a tried and tested way to encourage community participation in the welcoming and supporting of refugees. Canada has welcomed more than 325,000 refugees over the past 40 years. A petition supporting the move has been signed by more than 35,000 people. The COVID-19 pandemic has seen many of us transition to working from home, and in doing so has created the opportunity for many of us to continue working remotely. For that to be possible into the future, though, a robust work from home policy should be high up on all of our agendas. So what should a good work from home policy include to ensure everyone has equal opportunities, good support and knows what to expect? As with any policy, it should clearly define expectations and responsibilities, who is eligible, a request and approval process and some basic guidelines to ensure good productivity and low risk. It should also look at issues like security, personal wellbeing, and anything else that you and your organisation can think of that can cover off on all of the bases that can help everyone get the best result.Posted on 11/06/2020 by

A 20 per cent revenue cut to the charity sector could cause almost 90% of charities to immediately make an operating loss, according to a new report from Social Ventures Australia and the Centre for Social Impact. Social Ventures Australia CEO Suzie Riddell said this would mean hundreds of thousands of charity sector jobs could be lost unless the sector receives more support. Riddell said the report showed that thousands of charities were at risk at a time when she said the sector should be being prepared to aid recovery post COVID-19. Tony Stuart, who is leading the NFP coronavirus committee established by the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission this month, says the NFP sector can make a significant contribution to the community during the COVID-19 crisis beyond. Mr Stuart, who is the CEO of UNICEF Australia and the chair of the Charity, Philanthropy and Fundraising Advisory Group, told Pro Bono News the group aimed to identify the barriers charities faced when providing services. He said tackling dropping giving levels and charity red tape will be the top priorities of the newly established NFP working group to ensure charities can assist during and after coronavirus. The NFP coronavirus committee will also work to highlight the ways in which the NFP sector can make a significant contribution to the community during the crisis and the rebuilding phase of COVID-19, added Mr Stuart.Posted on 29/05/2020 by

As National Volunteer Week gets under way, Connecting Up is thinking of the first 15,000 reasons why we’re grateful for our amazing volunteers. The number 15,000 is significant because that is the huge number of vital community service listings that wouldn’t be available and up to date for the South Australian Community without our team. Every day at Connecting Up we are privileged to have volunteers dedicate their time to searching through listings, contacting organisations for the most up-to-date information and adding it to our directory so that the broader community can confidently access the services they need. But those 15,000 reasons are just the start of why we’re grateful to our volunteers, who come from all over the world, bringing humour, friendliness and culture to our working environment every day.Posted on 18/05/2020 by

They also make a huge contribution to the culture within our office, bringing humour, friendliness and experiences from all over the world to our work environment. To mark National Volunteer week ,Connecting Up will be profiling some of our amazing volunteering team to recognise them and thank them for the work they do.Posted on 15/05/2020 by

After answering 45,000 questions in March, ABC News has responded to another 15,000 questions about COVID-19 from April, with the focus shifting from symptoms and testing to the road ahead. Questions about the science, communication and technology were answered, as well as questions about the Australian strategy for moving to the next phase. One reader asked if it was known if COVID-19 can mutate yet, and whether that might mean creating a vaccine is pointless. The publication by ABC News comes hot on the heels of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announcing last week that Australia would be easing its COVID-19 restrictions in a three-stage process. A third of charities with a turnover of $250,000 or less have less than three months of financial reserves remaining, according to a new survey. The findings, in the RESET 2020 National Support Program and Research Study, which is still open, show that 50 per cent of the organisations surveyed are suffering a loss of revenue, and 11 per cent needed immediate financial support. The information gathered so far also shows that despite 44 per cent of charities experiencing increased demand for services during the coronavirus crisis, just 4 per cent report an increase to revenue. Starting in November, you will notice that we have increased administrative (admin) fees for selected discount and donation programs at Connecting Up. We periodically review and adjust admin fees to reflect the fair market value of products and our own costs in managing these programs. As a not-for-profit ourselves, we include admin fees in our offers in order to support the value that we can continually bring to all not-for-profits. This helps us provide as many resources as possible to organisations like yours, everywhere. We will continually strive to make sure that these offers will still be made at the lowest cost available to you and will remain at a fraction of their retail value. In most cases, the increase in the admin fee will be no more than a few dollars per transaction. Certain products from the following programs will be affected by these changes:Posted on 05/11/2019 by

They’re innovative, efficient, empathic, enthusiastic, and 77% of them say they’d like to help charities and not-for-profits … yet only a small percentage actually do. So, what exactly is the problem with Millennial volunteers? And why aren’t Australian charitable orgs taking advantage of the massive opportunity they present to help us build stronger, better communities? According to the team at Achieve that produced the 2015 Millennial Impact Report, it’s all down to poor communication between orgs that really want volunteers and the millions of millennial volunteers who really want to volunteer at things they’re good at.Posted on 28/06/2018 by

After some time in deliberation, the Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Bill 2016 became law on 23rd February 2018. The amendment established a mandatory data breach notification scheme in Australia. What is Mandatory Data Breach Notification? It's a scheme that requires all entities subject to the Privacy Act to notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and individuals who may be affected in the event of a data breach. The intention is to ensure that people have the opportunity to take steps to protect their personal information if a breach occurs. Put simply, if someone gains unauthorised access to your data, and your data contains personal or sensitive information, you are required to notify both the OAIC and the people whose information is stored in your system.Posted on 14/03/2018 by
